Tangga Barat Cluster Development Project involves the development of the Melor, Laho, Tangga, and Tangga Barat gas fields, which are located within section PM–313 of the Commercial Arrangement Area approximately 185km offshore from the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
The project involves the installation of three unmanned drilling platforms Laho, Melor and Tangga, one manned processing platform Tangga Barat which is linked to an adjacent drilling riser platform and flare tripod. The cluster platforms are linked by subsurface pipelines, with an export pipeline to the existing Resak processing complex. On completion of the project, the maximum annual output of the cluster is expected to be approximately 240MMSCFD of Sales Gas and 5355.2BPD of Sales Condensate.
The proposed project is governed by the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Act, 1984, which designates the Director General of Environmental Quality, as determined in the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and as administered by the Department of Environment (DOE), to oversee the protection and preservation of the marine environment in the EEZ, and as such an EIA report is required for submission and approval to the DOE. Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd was commissioned to carry out the EIA study and among others, the EIA addressed key issues on safety risk, marine ecology, water pollution and air pollution.
