Eastern Sabah Power Consortium Sdn Bhd is a newly established consortium to construct, operate and maintain a 300MW net combined cycle dual-fuel (natural gas – main fuel; distillate oil – backup fuel) power plant for electricity supply to the Sabah East Coast grid to overcome power shortage issue in Sabah.
A PEIA study was initiated as the project is considered as prescribed activity under the Environmental Quality (Prescribed Activities) (Environmental Impact Assessment) Order 1987. The study has taken into consideration of all possible environmental impacts arising from the development of the project. These include air and noise pollution; water quality deterioration; traffic and transportation; waste generation and management, risk assessment, ecological impact as well as social economic impacts to the people of Sabah. The PEIA study is carried out in tandem with the preliminary engineering design to ensure that all the recommended mitigation measures or environmental enhancement measures can be incorporated in the detailed design of the power plant.
Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd is honored to be appointed as the environmental consultant for this PEIA study. The PEIA report was submitted to the Department of Environment (DOE) Sabah and subsequently approved.
