First Schedule Environmental Impact Assessment for the Baram Redevelopment Project

PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) is undertaking a wholescale field redevelopment plan to monetize additional oil reserves in the Baram field which requires additional structure to accommodate new wells for Sarawak Oil Assets (SK-Oil). This Project will support this initiative by providing pressure maintenance to Baram field, and to monetize additional oil from the field.
The key study elements are:
- A profile of the existing environmental condition at the Project site. This element focussed on the identification and mapping of the existing environmental conditions in conditions in the immediate area, meteocean data, marine ecology based on secondary data and the key environmental issues. This included a review of the institutional and legal set-up and identification of the main issues, opportunities and constraints
- Outlining the waste management and discharge strategy such as hydrotest water discharge during installation stage.
Impact assessment is carried out with reference to the PETRONAS Risk Assessment Matrix. Besides that, identification of existing control measures that are included in design for management of risk as well as recommendation of any additional control measures are included.
