The proposed Project will be the first integrated phosphate complex in Southeast Asia and the first non-metal or alloy-based plant in the SIP. The plant will have an annual production capacity of about 1.25 million metric tonnes of phosphate related products and will employ close to 1,400 skilled workers and staff. With an estimated total investment of RM 1.8 billion, it is expected that the annual sales revenue will be more than RM 2.0 billion, thus bringing economic benefits to Bintulu, the State of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.

 

The proposed Project is envisaged to produce phosphate related products comprising of Yellow Phosphorus (YP), Food Grade Phosphoric Acid (FGA), Technical grade Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (MAP), Technical grade Mono-Potassium Phosphate (MKP), DiCalcium Phosphate (DCP), MonoDiCalcium Phosphate (MDCP), Fertilizer grade Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (MAP), Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), including Metallurgical Coke (Coke) and Ammonia.

 

The Sarawak phosphate complex would help reduce the imports of phosphate products and to expand the production of ‘halal’ animal feed and fertilizers in the country, paving the way for export-oriented downstream industries.

 

As the Project is a prescribed activities under the Environmental Quality (Prescribed Activities) (Environmental Impact Assessment) Order 2015, a report on the impacts of the proposed Project on the environment is to be prepared for the approval of the Department of Environment (DOE). The objective of the EIA is to ensure that all impacts, direct and indirect, especially environmental, social and economics associated with the proposed development is fully examined and addressed.
