In conjunction with Earth Day 2019, Chemsain participated in the event organised by the Department of Environment Sabah from 20th to 21st April 2019.  The theme for Earth Day was “Protect Our Species” and various programmes such as an E-waste campaign to collect e-waste from households, and mangrove planting were organised to celebrate the event in a more memorable way.

On 20th April 2019, there was collection of e-waste at Taman Awam Teluk Likas 1 and mangrove planting at the KK Bird Sanctuary for the public.  Chemsain contributed by donating energy saving electrical appliances for the e-waste campaign.

The e-waste campaign had a good participation rate and the mangrove planting was warmly welcomed by the public especially by the schools.  The mangrove planting was officiated by Mdm Rohimah Binti Ayub from DOE Putrajaya.  It was a memorable event to understand how important it is to protect the wetlands and mangroves and how the public can contribute by planting mangroves and enhance the wetland ecosystem.

On 21st April 2019, the final day of the event, to mark the peak of the event, a ceremony was held at Likas Bay. The event was officiated by the Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) YB Puan Isnaraissah Munirah Binti Majilis. The theme of that year was Lindungi Spesies Kita (Protect Our Species). The public was reminded that there was increasing man-made environmental threats to the species in our world and it was essential that humankind do their utmost best to minimise these threats. When we protect the species, we also protect ourselves and our future generations!

As a token of appreciation to partners who joined hands and participated in this event, the organisers handed out certificates to the respective parties.  Chemsain was represented by Terence Lee, who attended the ceremony and received the certificate of participation.  It was indeed a pleasure and heart warming experience to be able to participate in this memorable event!
