OCBC-Rotary Run 2017
A total of 40 brave runners from Chemsain joined the OCBC Rotary Run on the 29th October 2017. The theme for this year was Run With The Army with the distance of 8KM and 2KM and we were honoured to run along our Malaysian Army that has pledged their loyalty in defending our country.
A total of 1,700 runners from all around Sarawak participated in the run together with the 55 army personnel. All of the runners converged as early as 5:30 p.m at MBKS and was treated with a warm up session by the army. It was an indeed a gruelling session as the army led the runners into a boot camp drill like exercise. The event was aimed at raising funds for the Rotary Club of Kuching to carry out more community project. The flag off was performed by our Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian together with Brigadier General Dato Haji Fadzil Bin Tajuding and the Organising Chairman of this run, our Director Dr. John Chan. This marked the second year that the club had organised this run.
There were more than 55 army personnel that joined the run on that day. The 55 army personnel were specially mentioned because they were instructed to run in their boots and their army uniform which is not an easy endeavour for many. The 55 army personnel clad in their uniform ran the entire 8KM route without any struggle. They were in fact 300 of them on site for other activities such as artillery and weapon display.
Towards the last stretch of the run, the army personnel set up a simple obstacle course near the finishing line for individuals to put their physical fitness to the test. Our Chemsain runners took the challenge by trying the obstacle courses and visiting the different booths set up by the army.
We would like to express our appreciation to the Management of Chemsain for subsidising half of the registration fee for the run.
