More than 100 people from CHEMSAIN Group of Companies, Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin District and Sarawak Forestry Department turned up to plant 500 mangrove seedlings at the Kuching Wetland National Park on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 . It was a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effort by CHEMSAIN to promote awareness on the importance of mangrove as a source of food and habitat for different species of animals. This activity was a collaborative effort between CHEMSAIN, Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin District (PBSM) and Sarawak Forestry Department.

The CSR project saw 500 mangroves seedlings planted at Kuching Wetland National Park. The park is an important spawning and nursery ground for fish and prawn species and contains a wide diversity of wildlife including proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque monkeys, estuarine crocodiles and even the Irrawaddy dolphins. This park is the only RAMSAR site in Sarawak, named after the first Convention on Wetlands held in Ramsar, Iran in 1971. A RAMSAR Site is a wetland site designated of international importance under the Convention.

CHEMSAIN’s CSR programmes aim to promote a culture in “giving back to the environment” which is in line with their nature of work as an environmental consulting and scientific company. As one of the biggest environmental companies in Malaysia, CHEMSAIN hopes that such activities will help to rehabilitate the degraded areas of the gazetted wetland.
