Environmental Monitoring and Auditing for Port Dickson Beach Nourishment and Rehabilitation Works from Bagan Pinang to Tanjung Lembah, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID) has proposed to do beach nourishment and rehabilitation works from Bagan Pinang to Tanjung Lembah in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. The Project is funded by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and the main contractor is Benalec Sdn Bhd. Chemsain Konsultant Sdn. Bhd. is appointed by Benalec Sdn Bhd to undertake the environmental monitoring and auditing in accordance to the project’s Environmental Management Plan and the requirement of the Department of Environment Malaysia.
Previous studies show that beaches in Port Dickson have been having severe erosion problem. It is estimated that the shoreline is retreating up to 0.5 m annually. DID has been given the responsibility to oversee to the rehabilitation and nourishment works on these beaches. Nourishment of the beaches will involve extending the current shoreline to approximately 50m towards the Straits of Malacca with sea sand by mean of hydraulic filling. Some structure such as artificial headlands, breakwaters, and groynes are built to control the littoral drifts and minimise the loss of sand from the Project site. The beach nourishment stretches a distance of about 4km, from the Mayang Sri Reclamation Project at Bagan Pinang to a natural ridge approximately 100m south of Bayu Beach Resort.
Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd is responsible for carrying out marine water, air and noise monitoring as well as environmental auditing for compliance with the project’s Environmental Management Plan along the nourishment work areas on a monthly basis throughout the nourishment and rehabilitation period.
